Top Gun T-1 week

This week was pretty hectic again. Lots-o-work over the weekend to help make up for not being in the office Monday. Got a few extra frequent flyer miles by a one-day trip to Dallas. I missed the live version of Cowboys folding in the last few minutes of a game and giving it up to the despicable hated 'skins. Oh well …

This week I finally got my travel approved. Once some managers 2 levels up get it approved, it's pretty easy to make flight arrangements on the company travel site. Just gotta call the airline cuz I can't get a seat assignment for some reason. Also got my TDY approval and Plano hotel reservations. So it's just sit back, work like a dog for one more week and then off to Top Gun …

The number one question I'm getting is "what will you be doing" out there. I don't know yet but I can bet it will be fun.

Top Gun T-2 weeks

I found out about the Top Gun program about a year ago when my pal Scott R. was selected to attend. Basically the best of the best from our company go out to Microsoft/sun/oracle and work on an enterprise level project for 3 intense months. Afterward, you get to come back and bask in the glow of helping EDS address a high profile problem or situation.

I asked to apply but had to wait about six months. I submitted my app in June and was finally notified in early september that i was one of 15 lucky candidates to attend the Microsoft program in Q405. I about died from waiting but it was worth it.

I got a packet today that has tons-o-maps of the seattle area and the 135 MS buildings in the area. At one a day, I'll still not be able to see 45 of them in the 3 mons. I'm out there. (ha!). Lots of admin stuff to do now to get assigned to the TDY program, make travel arrangements, etc. Days 1-3 are in Plano so maybe I'll be able to check in a few of my buds back at HQ.

Meanwhile at my real job, I've been working like a slave to get everything in good shape for me to be gone for 3 months. We have a pretty good team overall but I'm sure they'll still miss me. I know they can't wait to get me in some review meetings before I go. ... . .
